Many amazing songs come out in the world every single day, but the classics are still unbeatable. Old vintage songs just have a way of speaking to your heart like no others! I am not trying to demean new songs and their artists, but I would prefer old songs over new ones any day!

The video below features one of these old classics. “Smoke Gets in Your Eyes” was a song that was covered by everybody from Earth Kitt to the incredible Frank Sinatra, but it was cover from The Platters has become one of the most recognizable versions in the world. The song was originally written by Otto Harbach and Jerome Kern. The Platters’ rendition of the song topped the charts in the UK, USA and Australia, and went on to become a number one hit in 1958.

Tim Conway is one of the most famous individuals in the history of TV comedy. He rose to insane heights when he appeared on the Carol Burnett Show. The man used to have a natural affinity for make people smile. According to sources, he used to have a brilliant sense of humor even when he was off screen. The video below shows one of his scenes with Harvey Korman.

Harvey is a sailor on the ship captained by Tim. Conway does an incredible job of representing the old Captain. The duo tries to keep their ship from hitting an iceberg, but their interaction is going to leave you in stitches for sure! Willie Nelson is one of the most popular individuals in the music industry. He is not only an incredible singer-songwriter, but he is also famous for being a poet, author, actor, and activist. Nelson rose to insane heights with the critical success of his album, Shotgun Willie. He is regarded as one of the main figures of outlaw country.

Ray Charles on the other was often referred to as “The Genius”. Even though he was blind from the age of seven, he went on to become a pioneer of soul music. Frank Sinatra even called him “the only true genius in show business”. He was ranked #2 on Rolling Stone’s “100 Greatest Artists of All Time” in 2008. Together, Ray and Willie recorded a song in 1984 called “Seven Spanish Angels”. It was the most successful of Ray Charles’ eight hits on the country chart. The single spent one week at number one and a total of twelve weeks on the country chart.

The song spent 10 weeks at the No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and earned her the Grammy for Best New Artist the following year. She also won two more Grammy awards later on for her Christian albums. Throughout her career, she has appeared in several musical theater productions and has co-authored many children’s books with husband, Gabriel Ferrer.

“You Light Up My Life” was written by Joseph “Joe” Brooks and originally recorded by Kasey Cisyk. However, the most widely-recognized version of the song is by Debby Boone, the daughter of Pat Boone. Debby’s cover set a new record at the time.

Israel Ka’ano’i Kamakawiwo’ole was an exceptionally gifted singer and musician from Hawaii. Often also referred to as “The Fearless Eyed”, “Bruddah Iz”, and “Gentle Giant”, he was also a Hawaiian sovereignty activist. Despite his stature, Israel had a very soft and mild voice. However, his obesity led to a number of cardiac and respiratory issues which caused his premature death in 1997 at the young age of 38.

His contributions to Hawaiian culture have made him a legend. In 1993, he released an album that featured a ukulele medley of “Over the Rainbow” and Louis Armstrong’s “What a Wonderful World”. This version of the song was recorded in 1988, in Honolulu, and in just one take. It has been covered by many people over the years and has also been used in several commercials, films and television programs.

Neil Diamond is one of the most well-known artists of all time. Even though he started his career way back in the 60s, he is still very actively involved in the music industry. 2016 saw a lot of celebrity deaths. David Bowie passed away in early January, while we lost George Michael late December. Not a great year for music fans at all. Michael died at the age of 53 on Christmas day. The video below features a performance that includes both Bowie and Michael together. In 1992, they had joined hands to pay respects to the late Freddie Mercury.

During the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert rehearsals, George Michael decided to sing Queen’s “Somebody to Love”. Everyone in the rehearsal room was out of breath when they heard his powerful vocals. The spectators included David Bowie and Seal. The look on both the singers’ faces is priceless. It seems they are in shock after hearing Michael’s flawless singing.

Jerry Lewis is an American actor who is perhaps best known for his comedies and slapstick humor. He, along with Dean Martin, made the hilarious comedy duo, Martin and Lewis. It is amazing how well he has managed to balance looking goofy while still pulling off some technically challenging moves! Jennifer Nettles is an American country singer as well as an actress. She is best known as one half of the duo Sugarland. She has also been actively involved in activism for various non-profit organizations. Apart from her philanthropy, you have to admire her raw talent! This video shows her singing the Christmas classic, “O Holy Night”, but she adds her own special twist to it.

This performance was done for SiriusXM. Nettles chose to sing “O Holy Night”, and right from the first note itself, it was magical. Her clear, strong voice is just phenomenal. The musical arrangement is also very unique. But the best part was when she slowly transitioned from “O Holy Night” to Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah”. Now that is quite a unique twist to the age old classic!

“Silent Night” is one of the most famous Christmas carols of all times. It was composed in 1818 by Franz Xaver Gruber to lyrics by Father Joseph Mohr. UNESCO declared it as an intangible cultural heritage in 2011. It was first performed on Christmas Eve 1818 at St Nicholas parish church in Oberndorf, a village in the Austria. Both performed the carol during the mass on the night of December 24. Since then the song has been covered by many artists from all over the world.
